Shishkin: Two-time Cheltenham Competition winner dies


Two-time Cheltenham Competition winner Shishkin has died after breaking a leg in an accident in his secure, says his coach Nicky Henderson.

The horse had been resulting from race within the Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday.

Shishkin gained the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2020 and the Arkle Chase the next 12 months.

“It is a very unhappy evening. He was our star and we are going to always remember him,” stated Henderson.

Shishkin had refused to race at Ascot earlier within the season however was then in rivalry to win the King George VI Chase earlier than a late fall.

He missed the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March when Henderson’s Seven Barrows yard was hit by a virus, then was fourth within the Aintree Bowl in his final outing.

“Everybody concerned with Seven Barrows, notably his homeowners, Joe and Marie Donnelly, Jaydon, Nico and George are clearly devastated that such an excellent horse, pal and warrior has gone,” added Henderson.
