Meet Patch the Police Pony


The New Orleans Police Division (NOPD) acquired a brand new helper for its neighborhood watch – a miniature horse named Patch. The NOPD posted to X (previously Twitter): It’s official – our beloved Patch the mini horse is a full-fledged NOPD Officer!!! Patch was sworn in at this time by Mayor LaToya Cantrell. The 15-year-old acquired his personal badge and a proclamation from the New Orleans Metropolis Council. Geaux Patch Geaux!!!

In line with WGNO information  in Louisiana, Patch is three ft tall and has just one eye as a result of a delivery defect. The mini was initially drafted as an emotional assist animal again in January, “to be a pleasant, calming presence within the barn and for the officers, and ties the neighborhood and mounted division unit,” says Jessica Dietz, president of COPS 8, a non-profit group that helps the NOPD and helped facilitate the arrival of Patch.

He’s the primary mini to hitch the unit since Hurricane Katrina and will supply assist to each different horses that serve within the NOPD mounted unit, and for law enforcement officials.
