Cubs’ Colten Brewer breaks hand punching wall after tough outing

The Chicago Cubs positioned right-handed pitcher Colten Brewer on the 60-day injured record Sunday due to a damaged left hand after he punched the dugout wall in frustration the day earlier than.

Brewer entered Saturday’s sport in reduction of starter Kyle Hendricks within the third inning with the Cubs down 2-0 to the Los Angeles Angels. He received simply two outs earlier than being lifted and was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits, two walks and successful batter.

The Angels went on to win 7-0.

“My intention wasn’t to interrupt my hand,” Brewer advised reporters Sunday. “I am going to get annoyed and make errors. That is no excuse. There’s lots I can show on the market, that I am prepared to not do stuff like that. Feelings get the perfect of us typically.”

The six-year veteran, in his first season with the Cubs, has made 16 reduction appearances. The 31-year-old has no choices to go along with a 5.66 ERA, a save and a blown save, 22 strikeouts and 9 walks.

“When these issues occur, you understand you screwed up,” supervisor Craig Counsell advised reporters. “That was the dialog. Then there’s penalties for the errors you make. It is an unlucky mistake, and he let feelings get the perfect of him. It isn’t who he’s, but it surely’s a mistake that he made.”

In a corresponding transfer, the Cubs referred to as up right-hander Hunter Bigge from Triple-A Iowa. In 11 video games with Iowa, Bigge, 26, is 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA and 6 saves.

The Cubs chosen Bigge with a Twelfth-round choose in 2019 from Harvard. He has but to make his main league debut.
