Padres place beginning pitchers Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove on IL

The San Diego Padres‘ beginning rotation took a blow Saturday with right-handers Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove each positioned on the 15-day injured record.

Darvish is out with a left groin pressure that pressured him from a begin Wednesday. Musgrove is headed again to the IL with continued triceps and elbow discomfort.

The Padres recalled a pair of right-handers in Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso. Vasquez will begin Saturday’s highway recreation in opposition to the Kansas Metropolis Royals instead of Musgrove, who made two begins after coming back from a triceps pressure.

Darvish’s open spot within the rotation will come up once more Tuesday in a highway recreation in opposition to the Los Angeles Angels.

Darvish, 37, is 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 11 begins this season. In 12 main league seasons, he’s 107-88 with a 3.58 ERA in 277 begins for the Texas Rangers (2012-17), Los Angeles Dodgers (2017), Chicago Cubs (2018-20) and Padres.

Vasquez, 25, went 0-3 with a 5.82 ERA in 5 begins for San Diego earlier this season. He’s 2-5 with a 3.94 ERA in 16 appearances (10 begins) with the New York Yankees and Padres over the previous two seasons.

Gillaspie, 27, didn’t enable a run in two aid appearances for the Padres earlier this season. He pitched the earlier two seasons for the Baltimore Orioles and is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA in 30 main league aid appearances.
