64% of Black Children Can’t Swim. Meet the Lady Altering That | Keep Tuned


Drowning is the #1 reason for dying for teenagers ages 1-4 and 64% of Black children can’t swim. Paulana Lamonier is a New York Metropolis native who tweeted a couple of years in the past that she needed to show 30 Black children to swim. It went viral, she stop her job, launched ‘Black Individuals Will Swim’ and now teaches Black people to swim full time. By the top of this 12 months, her group can have taught 2,500 Black people to swim. There’s a purpose the stereotype ‘black individuals can’t swim’ has been round for many years — the segregation and privatization of swimming swimming pools within the Fifties made it more and more tough for Black people to swim.
