Ray Reardon: Six-time world snooker champion dies aged 91


Welshman Mark Williams, a three-time world champion, informed the World Snooker Tour: “Ray is likely one of the finest sportspeople ever from Wales, and the perfect snooker participant.

“He is one of many explanation why a variety of us began enjoying. He put snooker on the map, alongside Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Steve Davis.

“Anybody enjoying now owes them rather a lot as a result of they introduced recognition to the sport. He’s an actual inspiration.”

Six-time World Championship finalist Jimmy White mentioned he was “gutted” on the loss of life of his “shut pal”.

He described Reardon as a “class act” and “a large of the sport”, including: “Relaxation in peace mate.”

4-time world champion Mark Selby mentioned Reardon was “a legend”, whereas commentator and former participant John Virgo mentioned it was “an honour to have recognized… a real nice of our recreation”.

Dennis Taylor, the 1985 world champion, mentioned he “had the pleasure of travelling world wide with a real gentleman”.

Stuart Bingham, world champion in 2015, mentioned it was “one of many proudest moments receiving the Welsh Open trophy from the legend himself” in 2017.
